Marketing For Freelancers In The Music Industry

Social Media

Now a days it’s fairly easy for most freelancers to get their name out with all the technology we have at our disposal.

Soundcloud is making it real easy for new and upcoming musicians to get their music out their and for free! What helps push this along is the ad promotions Facebook has for artists pages, I use this all the time to share music. With the ability to choose how much money you spend per day.  You can run an ad that cost a euro for a day, granted you wont get much exposure but us freelancers are working with a budget it’s nice knowing we can be as cheap as possible.  The more you spend obviously pushes this more giving you the chance to expose you music to people all the world.

Real Life

This is probably my favourite way of marketing cause it’s simple and effective. Getting out there, meeting new people and being a decent person is a big part of offline promotion, telling people who you are and what you can do, people are going to be more incline to support you if you’re nice.

Posters and fliers are also a great way to get your name out there, they can be done by yourself and on the cheap. put them wherever you can ! the more the better !!!!!

Which Is More Effective

Of course online marketing is more effective than offline. The vast amount of the world a single post can reach is really bizarre, and not costing all that much money. Not only with posting on social media but the fact that your music can reach people all over the world because of streaming services is just great, the only other way you’d be able to get you music to those places without social media is actually going over and playing in France, Germany or wherever it is people are listening besides your own country.

Offline marketing just isn’t that practical anymore with the new technology, Though it is great way to build a following in you own country or city. I know it’s hard work designing your own posters for shows, making badges, cassettes etc etc. People love that stuff and always will because it’s physical and brings then that bit closer to you.
